Will we see an Audi sports car in between TT & R8?
The answer to this question: Maybe. A few years ago we got a tip on a rumor that Audi was planning to build a sports car, dubbed the R4, to slot in between the TT & R8. The car was likely to be based on a VW platform (not suprising), but even had the chance to share structure with Porsche. Well, this is all fine and good, but the rumor went dead. Flash to today and we’re hearing about this R4 again, and we like it. But, the R4’s fate is still a big ‘Maybe,’ largely because Audi R&D boss Wolfgang Dürheimer noted it as not a major priority when interviewed by Autocar. In addition, Dürheimer made a legitimate point when he noted that “We would want to bring technology to the segment, but getting the volume and pricing right for a mainstream sports car would be a challenge.” So, what to do instead? How about a full-fledged supercar to integrate Audi’s winning LeMans tech? Sounds good to us! Word on this supercar is that while it has not received the green light for production, it is still in development.
