BMW reportedly interested in buying De Tomaso
You might read this headline and have 1 of 3 thoughts:
1. De Tomaso, hmm that sound’s familiar
2. I thought they were already bought and sold several times?
3. Whew, I thought they were dead for good, let’s see what’s in store
All of these thoughts have validity. De Tomaso, though familiar to auto enthusiasts, is an often times vague brand, or one that is more recognizable by its most popular model name, Pantera. De Tomaso essentially took sexy Italian design and put in a powerful American V8 to create an almost-successful exotic car. Sold up until 1992, De Tomaso is most commonly represented by its handsome and wild Pantera coupe. Recent past shows several unsuccessful attempts at revival, with the strange decision to develop a CUV thrown in between one of the failed deals. Now there are rumors that BMW is next to scoop up the brand. And although BMW is acting as if it has little interest, it is substantiated that they are still in talks. Whether or not to get your hopes up is still in the air, but a modern De Tomaso sports car sure would be fun to have in the industry.
