The wraps are off! The 2014 has been revealed. Longer and more luxury oriented, the new Maserati Quattroporte evolves its legacy of sexy Italian sedan styling. The new Maserati 4-door is clearly longer and roomier than its predecessor, a sign that emerging markets are continuing to gain higher clout in the design schemes of our favorite luxury brands. The “foreign influence” we are referring to is largely that of China, whose luxury and exotic brand consumers often opt for backseat drivability. To some enthusiasts this seems a bit ironic seeing as how out of all the high-end luxury sedans, the Quattroporte would seemingly be the most driving and sports oriented. This notion is anything but gone seeing as how the car will still house a Ferrari-sourced motor, starting with a V8 option and likely including a forced-induced V6 in the mix. Grill design, fender ports and triangular c-pillar have essentially been carried over, but new curves, length, and frameless doors add to the new appeal. Inside the car goes for “less is more,” a trend that hasen’t let up since the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Mercedes S-Class adopted the ideal. Expect large doses of leather and wood goodness packed into the lighter, largely steel monocoque body. Will the new Quattroporte and smaller Ghibili be enough to reach Maserati’s increased sales goals?
