Next jaguar XK to be larger, more upscale
There have been many instances in the past several automotiv generations, or cycles, where Jaguar has seemed to fall in between the cracks of automotive categories. It's not that their models are indistinguishable, but that price points and general size have often fallen short of its competitors. One such model is the Jaguar XK. The XK has been a car that is more inexpensive than a Mercedes SL, and a bittle more cushy than sportier competitors (this doesn't include, of course, the hot XKR-S). So, now that the F-Type is hot on the scene as a fiery sports offering from Jag, there is word that the XK could drop some of its sporty intentions to focus on size, luxury, and an even more upscale persona. Ian Callum, famed Jaguar design director, noted “It could grow into the luxury market, and grow in size…Whether it stays the same as a two-plus-two or becomes a two-plus-more-than-two has not been committed to yet.” We've got to say, to hear that from Callum sounds like these rumors are not far off. We'll keep our eyes on the F-Type for the time being, but we'll be interested to see if a venerable Mercedes SL competitor is on its way.
