Audi Going on $17 Billion Spending Spree As It Targets Rivals
Audi has recently started an arms race of sorts, or perhaps better thought of as a brains race, as it competes with arch nemeses (Benz, Bimmer) for the luxury car crown of top-selling brand by 2020. This would constitute 2 million vehicles annually, up from an estimated new record of more than 1.4 million vehicles this year. How to do this? Invest massive sums to the tune of $17.6 billion into technology, new product development, and facilities. Hell, Audi is even planning to use some of that cash to develop its own fuel sources. In fact, they are currently building a new plant in Germany to generate hydrogen and natural gas using only water, CO2 and wind energy. With that being said, you can see that these efforts are no joke. Plus, based on Audi's (and its rivals') progress in the last decade, we're sure many of these efforts will come to fruition. What is perhaps the best part of all of this? Mercedes & BMW are on the same track, which will produce some healthy and exciting competition in the auto world.
