Why using Google Maps for driving directions is illegal in California
Before we go any further, please don’t text, look for directions, tweet, buy shoes, or anything for that matter on your phone while driving! If putting yourself and others in danger isn’t enough, the financial burden and damage to your car should make it enough to stop. And in our case, we are offering up rare and expensive exotic cars, some in excess of $300k, so you can imagine how we feel. Anyway, we’re not here to preach to you! So, to the info. Here in California texting or calling while operating a car is illegal, but if you thought you could get away with any other actions, well, you’re still breaking the law. In response to such a case, Judge Kent Hamlin of the Fresno County Superior Court made it all substantial:
“Hamlin’s decision countered that there was no legislative history that demonstrated the bill’s original supporters didn’t want texting covered by the law originally, and that since the purpose of the “plain language” of the law is to eliminate the distraction of manually using one’s phone while driving, that any such use is automatically covered.” (Autoblog, 4/8/13)
Please be safe while driving! Enjoy the car, scenery, and your thoughts…but don’t get too lost in them.
