Jaguar considering more hard-edged GT variants

Posted April 16, 2013 By Sia & filed under Uncategorized

Jaguar continues to gain its growl back from its time in the shadows earlier this millennium, and now we see the iconic brand reaching deeper into its sporting expertise to possibly offer a wider range of high-performance cars, a la XKR-S GT.  In light of its ultra-limited-edition debut last week at the New York Auto Show with the XKR-S GT, Jag is realizing that producing halo cars like this will make it wealthy with practice and knowledge in developing showcase automotive technology.  Sure, developing these limited run vehicles do nothing to raise the financial bottom line, but it does a lot to raise brand perception and internal technological development.  Jaguar Chief Adrian Hallmark noted to Autocar, “Jaguar is already well known for its ability to create sporty, dynamic cars, but the XKR-S GT project has shown us that we can learn more by pushing the envelope. Lessons learned from the dynamics, aero and braking work on that car will enter the mainstream.”  The next models to likely get the GT treatment are the new F-Type and XJ.
