Before we even begin, you may notice a revelation right away…we now know the 918 Spyder will be a 2015 model. Well, this is just merely scratching the surface of new, fully released details on Porsche’s halo supercar. Let’s take a look at some of the key points. To begin, the Porsche 918 Spyder will start at $845,000 with a top-of-the-line version with the Weissach package starting at $929,000; the car will go on sale later this year. Specs show a curb weight of 3,715 pounds, which makes it heavier than its two main competitors, the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1. Weight drops to 3,616 pounds with the Weissach package, thank to its carbon fiber parts, but still falls hundreds of pounds short when compared to its Italian & British hypercars. Under hood is a 608-horsepower 4.6-liter mid-engine V8, two electric motors that produce 154 hp and 127 hp, and a lithium-ion battery. The combined output comes out to 887 hp and 940 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed PDK transmission rounds out the powertrain. The supercar features five operating modes, launches to 60 in 7 seconds in all-electric mode, and can be driven up to 18 miles without any gas intervention. Porsche is hinting that the production model could break the 7 second barrier on the ‘Ring. We shall see!
