What is Tesla doing looking for autonomous driving engineers?
The auto indust
ry is no exception when it comes to research and spying for the purpose of early info on new, exciting products, but a recent discovery take it all to a new level. David Herron over at Torque News uncovered a job posting from Tesla for a radar hardware engineer who “has 3-10 years of design and release responsibility on sensors (Radar, Cameras, Lidar, and Ultrasound)/active safety systems. This engineer will be responsible for translating Tesla’s autopilot roadmap into active safety features and into requirements. The engineer will actively drive the features into production and evaluate future technologies.” For a bit of context, Tesla’s Elon Musk has noted recently that self-driving technology will take about 3 years, which is ahead of all other automaker estimates (i.e. Nissan states by 2020). A nuance that can’t be ignored is that Musk notes the technology as “autopilot,” which sounds a bit more like hyper-advanced safety features that can control up to 90% of the car. A notable feat that we’ve seen develop in today’s most luxurious offerings, but an autonomous car would have 100% control, right? Either way we’re intrigued and look forward to seeing what Tesla is up to next. Get a peek at Tesla’s outstanding technology in our incredible Tesla Model S Performance Edition rental!
