Lexus LF-LC likely to be produced as an F-Sport range-topper
Rumors, rumors, rumors…sometimes empty speculation, sometimes meaty facts. In the end, when it comes to new sports cars, there’s nothing like a good cup of tea. So, now that we’ve seen the screaming v-10 Lexus LF-A come and go, let’s speculate! This is one of those instances, though, where there is very suggestive language coming from top executives, so let’s see what they have to say. As most of us know, Lexus has been fairly absent when it comes to *truly* participating in the sports car market. The LF-A was undoubtedly an exciting supercar, but rare and very expensive. It’s F-line of high-performance cars has been a bit slow to take a bite out of the daunting AMG/M markets, but has been a nice precursor to what we hear is brewing in the green tea at the Toyota headquarters. The beautiful LF-LC concept shown at the 2012 Detroit show, we hear, is getting closer and closer to reality. What kind of reality you might ask? Halo car status. See, Lexus is really looking to get its F-line off the ground in the very near future with a hybrid-performance niche, and every good performance line has a halo car. Enter the LF-LC. The LFA’s chief engineer noted, “I have the expectation that the car will be launched…I personally hope the LF-LC will be built. I think most of Lexus’s concept cars have been turned into production cars.” Lexus’ Executive Vice President Mark Templin said that Lexus is preparing a range of F-badged performance models with a “car like the LFA” as the range topper. So, if the execs’ hints hold true we’d expect the new sports car to be a competitor to the one and only Porsche 911. Stay tuned!
