Jaguar C-X17 crossover concept revealed, hides new lightweight aluminum architecture
The deed is done, Jaguar has officially revealed an SUV concept! But, not so fast. Perhaps 5 or 10 years ago this car would be called a luxury SUV, but as many of us know, the onslaught of ‘utility’ vehicles into the industry in the last decade has made the term a bit obsolete. ‘Cross-over,’ ‘Sport wagon,’ or as BMW dubbed its X5 years ago, ‘sport activity vehicle,’ are all better iterations of today’s ‘SUV.’ With that being said, Jaguar’s C-X17 is its first ever cross-over, and will be showcased in all its glory this week at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Aesthetically the concept fits in perfectly with Jag’s current design language, presenting a sporty, muscular stance, bold grille, and a beefy, chiseled rear. Right now, what is most important to Jag is what lies underneath these design cues. A new structure lauded for high-strength, extreme stiffness, and its light weight is in order, and is also sustainable in that much is created from recycle materials. Throw in the fact that the architecture is flexible enough for Jaguar to simultaneously manufacture multiple models on the same production line and you have yourself a very desirable platform. When the crossover will break away from concept status and onto the roads is unknown, but we’ll be keeping you updated!
