China’s fiery luxury and exotic car market has cooled off a bit, especially since its explosive growth around 2010. Amid the massive growth, top-notch brands like Rolls-Royce and Ferrari were opening up showrooms as quickly as Starbucks and special editions models catered directly to the Chinese were abundant. Though still a major player, in Ferrari CEO Marco Mattiacci’s eyes China will soon take a backseat to a different growth market, Mexico. Not the expected India or Russia, but a legitimate answer taking into consideration the growing number of wealthy people in Mexico and South America. Staple trends he pointed to recently in Forbes includes the rise of manufacturing moving back to Mexico and excellent education. To put it in car terms, back in 2003 there were a handful of orders fulfilled for the Enzo in Mexico. The number for the LaFerrari is about 15. “Mexico is the next China,” said Ferrari CEO Marco Mattiacci.
