There are some cars that when they leave the scene are truly missed, and a prime example of that is the Toyota Supra. Exotic in its own right, the Supra was known for utilizing a sweetly turbocharged 4-cylinder to give it uniquely racy proportions and a high-revving heartbeat. Now nearly 15 years absent from the U.S. market the Supra might just have a fighting chance at a return, or at least a spiritual successor. Toyota’s next Chairman, Takeshi Uchiyamada, recently noted at an event that he hoped for a sports car to be developed in light of the Supra, but that ultimately it is up to the engineers. Either way the chairman has set a tone and we like the sound of it. Plus, we’d think that most engineers would hop on this fun opportunity. Oh, and did we mention the car (as of now) is likely to be built alongside BMW? What Bimmer would utilize the car for is unclear, but in light of a 90’s revival perhaps we’ll see the return of the 8-Series moniker. Exciting stuff – stay tuned here for the latest developments.
