Happy 60th Birthday, Corvette!

Posted July 1, 2013 By Sia & filed under Autos

With so much history and such a solid place in the heart of American sports car heritage, it seems as though every additional year the Corvette is burning rubber is a grand celebration.  This year, though, marks an impressive 60 years for one of our favorite American sports cars.  In fact, the Corvette is the 2nd longest running continuously-produced passenger car, second to Chevy’s own Suburban.  The very first Chevrolet Corvette was produced in Flint, Michigan on June 30th, 1953.  Interestingly enough, the Corvette was only produced a year in Flint before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1954.  St. Louis was home to the Vette until 1981 when its production moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky, the site of Vette births ever since (P.S. the first batch of 1981 Corvettes was made in St. Louis while later 1981 model year cars were built in Kentucky).  As we reported not long ago, Chevy will be hitting the roads with its C7 Corvette clad in a variety of special editions later this year.
