No new models in Lotus’ pipeline

Posted July 23, 2013 By Sia & filed under Autos

What was once to be an overtly ambitious model lineup expansion has boiled down to improvements and alterations to currently running models for Lotus.  Maybe former CEO Danny Bahar shouldn’t have been using company funds to refurbish his homes… More-so than executive scandal was the fact that Lotus parent brand, Proton, was acquired by Malaysian industrial conglomerate, DRB-Hicom, who was going to veer toward survivability more than ambition; through May 2013 only 80 units were produced.  All the notes here so far sound pretty gloomy, but don’t think that Lotus is lost in the fray.  Instead, Lotus is getting a bit of a refresh and refocus to better position itself for an expansion.  DRB-Hicom managing director Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil noted, “We are coming out with the variants based on existing products–variants with improved technology, improved performance, improved quality as well as improved costing.”  Maybe not as exciting as brand new models, but we don’t mind the sound of that.  Experience what makes Lotus so exciting in our Lotus Elise rental.
