Ever since the astounding, beastly Nissan GT-R that we love so much launched in the U.S., there was speculation over an Infiniti rendition, or even that the car would be solely marketed as an Infiniti. Well, as we can see, Nissan didn’t adhere to those rumors whatsoever. So, what about that Infiniti supercar, let alone a flagship model? The Infiniti line-up has been a bit awkward in that the only models that seemed to exist was the G, M, and QX. The EX and FX were definitely around, but they seemed to slip memory easily. Plus, for some time now the gargantuan QX SUV has been Infiniti’s most expensive offering, and we think something else should take that top spot. Well, it’s recently been confirmed by Autocar that we’ll be seeing an Infiniti supercar by 2017, though details are pretty much non-existent at this point seeing as how Infiniti’s European boss, Fintan Knight, admits is still in the “layout evaluation” phase. We can only assume that syling will draw inspiration of the company’s Essence and Emerge-e concepts, and that it will have a hybrid powertrain of some sort (perhaps mated to a V6). A major plus that we’re nearly sure of is that the car will borrow some amazing F1 technology due to Infiniti’s close association with F1 sponsots and drivers. Overall, Infiniti wants to expand its lineup to become more a viable player, and we see no better way than to establish a beautiful, fast supercar for the other models to look up to.
