Affordable, lightweight Honda roadster revival in the works?
Remember the Ho
nda S2000? Of course you do! How could you forget the digital tach that swept to 8,000 RPM with the sweet sound of its 2.0-liter VTEC motor zooming about. Well, it’s been about 4 years since you’ve heard that sweet sound (at least from a new one), and it was 2009 which marked the ten year production run of the high-revving Japanese roadster. So, now what? Word has it that a new, lightweight roadster is in the works from Honda. And before we continue, let us kill your buzz a little (sorry). The rumors here are quite speculative, and even if remotely true it could be a while before they come to fruition. Remember, the NSX that we now know will be hitting the streets in the forseeable future was mulled around for nearly a decade before Honda actually built something. But let’s have some faith. The new roadster could borrow the 1.5-liter, 132hp mill from the Fit to fit onto a body in the realm of 2,000 pounds; a pair that would make for a deliciously zippy sports car. Add in a price tag of around $20k and Honda could very well have itself a winner in the segment. All of this talk conjures exciting memories of our Scion FR-S which provides exhilarating performance and sports car reflexes at a very low daily rate – you’ve got to check it out.
