Report: All future Ferraris will be turbocharged
Could we be seeing a very different Ferrari in the next few years? The Ferrari brand is one of the strongest of any industry, so we’re not worried about anything too crazy, but the mechanical make-up of its cars are sure to change, or more appropriately, evolve. According to a Motor Trend report, Ferrari will rely exclusively on turbocharged engines for its next generation lineup. Seeing as how Formula 1 is scrapping V8’s for forced induction mills, Ferrari is planning to follow suit. Surprising? Well, not really since Ferrari has such a short gap between its F1 technology and its consumer products, a feat that makes the brand so exotic. In addition, we’re sure to see more Ferrari models with hybrid tech, though not throughout the entire lineup like turbocharging is likely to make a presence. In March 2012 Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felis said of hybrid technology, “It has been designed to fit all our future architecture, and if we go ahead it will be fitted as standard. It is not the sort of thing you offer as an option.” So, before you think that Ferrari is driving down a different road or is truly changing, the prancing horse is, in fact, strengthening its current brand associations of F1-level performance for the common road. We can’t wait to report on further developments!
