The minute we s
aw “rival” and “Tesla” in the same sentence we became intrigued. Firstly, with a Tesla Model S Performance edition rental in our collection, and with the knowledge of how stellar it really is, we’d like to know what car can truly rival its technology and performance mix. Well, GM has self-proclaimed that Cadillac is that rival. Despite our undying love for our Tesla Model S Performance Edition, we’re all for some healthy competition and are intrigued by the Cadillac wreath being a threat. GM CEO Dan Akerson noted to the Detriot Times, ““If you want to compete head-to-head with Tesla, and we ultimately will, you want to do it with a Cadillac.” We’d agree with the choice for Cadillac, perhaps due to a secret desire to see Cadillac, an American brand, be the standard in luxury and innovation again. Don’t expect all-electric Caddys whiring around quite yet as plug-in hybrid tech is to debut first to better warm up the public (range-anxious fellows) to the new offerings. Those new offerings will first solely consist of the Cadillac ELR coupe which will be in the same “postal code” as Tesla, but with some growing room for technological advancement. Word has it that the ELR could command around $100k – truly the Cadillac of price tags among plug in’s, but on par with Tesla’s premium status. More details to come. In the meantime, you’ve got to hop in our Tesla Model S Performance Edition rental.
