Nearly 20 years ago there was an automotive brand in the U.S. that we don’t have today, and an upscale brand at that, with a sporting heritage and Italian bloodline. Before you start brainstorming as to what this sexy offering could possibly have been, it was Alfa Romeo! The Alfa Romeo brands, though not stateside, has been extremely present in the international automotive scene since its 1995 departure from the U.S. Time and time again, particularly in the last decade, rumors of the Italian resurfacing here have been brewing, but none have come to fruition. But, now that Alfa has a potential distribution network via Chrysler, Fiat, & Maserati, it seems as if we’re closer than ever to the return of Alfa Romeo in the United States. There is still some uncertainty seeing as how we’ve heard high-level executives at Chrysler say the brand would sell at successful Fiat dealers, while another has noted (more recently) that it would likely be sold through the Maserati dealer network. It’s important to note that we’re namely talking about the Alfa Romeo 4C, which means that future Alfa models in the U.S. could follow a different path as the brand regains its footing. Plus, the planned Giulia and Giuletta, which could arrive as soon as the 2015 model year, would provide both much-needed volume and higher profit margins to Fiat showrooms. Stay tuned!
