Next-gen Mazda MX- 5 Miata to be “best design ever”
Lightweight roadster enthusiasts rejoice! Mazda has revealed a tidbit of newsworthy information on its next generation MX-5 two-seat rocket. We are uncertain if Mazda will keep the Miata moniker for the next generation, such as the nomenclature on our 1992 Mazda Spec Miata rental. Supposedly, the first look at the redesigned MX-5 Miata will be at the Chicago Auto Show next year, however this seems too far off in the Internet age of leaked manufacturer patents and brochure scans. We can speculate that the car will (hopefully) leak online before a 2015 reveal. Mazda design chief, Ikuo Maeda, claims the new MX-5 Kodo design will be one of the best looking Mazda has ever offered, separating itself from the recently redesigned Mazda 3 and 6. Maeda also emphasized that the new MX-5 will not, we repeat, will not be jumping on the retro design bandwagon trend incepted in the early 2000s. A longer hood will augment the visual proportions of the car, emphasizing the rear-wheel-drive format that enthusiasts love. Expect a soft and hard top open, horsepower boosts, and new SkyActiv engine technology when this baby drops. We expect the redesigned MX-5 to give some new life to the segment, as there are too few two-seat roadsters out there.
