The P1 GTR will officially be making its debut at the Geneva Autoshow. McLaren was spotted testing earlier this month, fine tuning the aero and cooling.
The details around the car have been heavily guarded, but we do know one official figure; 986. That is the amount of hp expected to be derived from the hybrid setup. Considering how mind bending the performance metrics were for a “standard” P1, it’s safe to assume that the GTR will handily beat the P1’s figures and position itself closer to a missile than a car.
If you were interested in buying one, you would have had to be an existing P1 owner to even consider eligibility. If that wasn’t enough, rumors are that the program will cost at least $3million USD, which looks fairly reasonable compared to full fledged racing programs like LeMans and F1.
We hope that some of these racing bodies and manufacturers wise up and create a special class to allow the Ferrari FXX K, Porsche Prototypes, and the McLaren P1 GTR to compete. One can dream I suppose. Until then, here’s a teaser video.
