2016 Porsche Panamera – It’s a whole new car

Posted February 25, 2015 By admin & filed under Autos

Within the next year Porsche will be unveiling their re-designed Panamera line-up. The new Panameras will come in both V6 and V8 options which promise to keep the car as sporty as can be (for a sedan). Just like the current versions, both a rear wheel drive and all-wheel-drive vehicle will be made.

The Porsche 911 991 series has reduced massive amounts of weight compared to the previous generation 911 997. By using aluminum, magnesium and new steel panels the 911 lost 99 pounds while holding up even better during crash tests.

Wolfgang Hatz of Porsche stated that the team is looking to reduce the same percentage of weight as the 911 in the all new Panamera. With some of the current Panameras weighing 4,586 pounds (depending on options) it will be interesting to see the new 0-60 times of the new 4,200 pound Panamera. It may even way as little as 3,970 pounds. This will be a very impressive feat as the new Panamera is rumored to have a slightly longer wheelbase. The overhangs in the front and rear will be shorter leaving a sliver more room in the cabin.

Inside the amount of switches near the gearbox seems to have been significantly lowered due to the criticisms some reviewers and owners have had on the complexity of interior operations.

The styling on the exterior has clearing changed, taking it’s cues from the Porsche 911. When briefly glanced at from a side profile, it almost looks like an Aston Martin Rapide. The rear end will have an all new design which looks very similar to the rear of our Porsche 911 Carrera 2s, the quad exhausts on the edges are a nice touch. There is also a hidden spoiler right below the rear glass.

Bentley has been working alongside Porsche to create this next generation family sports sedan and Audi will stick along for the ride. Audi is partnered with Porsche for the Diesel engines in the Panamera D. A 2 door coupe or convertible Panamera may also be in the works, somehow differentiating from the 911. We’ll bring you more on that the moment we hear about it.
