The World’s Fastest Convertible – 265mph

Posted April 13, 2016 By admin & filed under Autos

2 years ago the Hennessey Venom GT set the world record for fastest road car with a trap speed of 270.49mph at the Kennedy Space Center on the 3.22-mile strip. It also set the record for fastest time getting from 0-200mph, 14.51 seconds.

For the 25th anniversary of Hennessey Performance, John Hennessey decided to celebrate by leading his team to another record, world’s fastest convertible. On April 11th, 2016, Brian Smith piloted the Hennessey Venom GT Spyder down the airstrip at Naval Air Station Lemoore in Central California all the way up to 265.6 miles an hour which was confirmed by Racelogic technical director, Jim Lau. That speed makes it 11 miles per hour faster than the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Vitesse.

The GT Spyder is powered by the same 7 Liter V8 with twin-turbos as the coupe. Power output is over 1,400 horsepower to the rear wheels that hold on with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. A  6-speed manual transmission gets it from 0-60mph in 2.4 seconds and up to 200mph in 13.

Three Venom GT Spyders are up for sale at a cost of $1.3million each.
