Official: Aston Martin Forms Alliance With Mercedes’ AMG Division
Word on the street has had it that Aston Martin was looking for a technical partner, with a keen eye on Mercedes and/or AMG. The notion seemed plausible, but now it’s been confirmed that it’s not only plausible, but a sure thing. While an definitive agreement isn’t signed in ink yet, both parties are sure a common point will be reached before the end of the year, and have lauded their assurance publicly. So, what’s in it for both parties? As you might expect, the proposed deal will provide Aston Martin with access to AMG’s portfolio of performance technology, bespoke engines, and also electrical systems. So far only talk around V8’s have been discussed, leaving Aston Martin to continue to source its V12’s from Ford. AMG will come out with a 5% non-voting stake in Aston Martin, a benefit that is ultimately at the source of the relationship and buzz that has surrounded the partnership over the past few years. See, the two performance leaders linked up through a mutual “friend” if you will, in the form of Italian firm Investindustrial. This new relationship is definitely one that Club Sportiva is looking forward to and we look forward to the first product, likely a replacement for the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, which we so dearly covet in our own collection. We’ll leave you with statements from leaders in both companies.

Aston Martin production development boss Ian Minards said, “Aston Martin sources cutting-edge technology from key suppliers around the globe and the opportunity to include content from AMG in our next-generation sports cars is, clearly, good news.”
AMG CEO Ola Källenius said of the alliance, “This is proof of AMG’s technological and performance expertise and a real win-win situation for both sides.”
